A downloadable project for Windows
Guitarist's Assistant is a simple, easy-to-use app that helps make songwriting easier and more fun. It also helps guitarists gain a better understanding of some of the concepts of music theory and composition. Guitarist's Assistant helps guitarists learn which notes, chords, scales and modes are in each of the twelve major keys. The app also provides lists of chord construction formulas and scale construction formulas along with lessons on how to use the formulas to build chords and scales.
The Chord Suggestions feature displays a list of all of the most common chords that can be built upon the root note that you select. This is useful for when you would like assistance in finding the proper chord voicing for a chord in your chord progression. If you want to know what chords can be used in the key that you chose to write your song in, then you can use Guitarist's Assistant's Chord Progression Assistance feature to see a list of 62 different chords that you can use to write your song in the chosen key. The app's Scale Assistance feature works the same way, but it is for showing you 15 different scales that you can use in your chosen key. A lesson on relative major and relative minor keys along with a list of the relative major and relative minor keys is included, too. All of the transposing features of Overdriven Software's revolutionary music transposition software, Ultimate Transposer, are included in Guitarist's Assistant as well. Also included is a full-featured and customizable text editor for writing song lyrics, editing them, saving them, and printing them. Users may interact with the Guitarist's Assistant software with a mouse and keyboard or with touch-screen controls, whichever method they prefer.
Guitarist's Assistant is a guitar-specific edition of Overdriven Software's other Windows PC app, Music Theory Assistant. It includes all of the features of Music Theory Assistant along with two additional features, Capo Assistance and a guitar tuner, that are specifically for guitarists. The capo transposition chart may be used along with the Transpose tool for further assistance with transposition if you are using a capo on your guitar. The guitar tuner plays reference pitches for eight of the most popular six-string guitar tunings.
